Summer In Alberta

Alberta is big and beautiful and I want to share some of the beauty I find from places and people around the province, from my home town, and from my own garden. I hope you enjoy them. My intent is to post about twice a week over the summer and fall.

Our provincial and civi governments are two of the most people friendly and accessible sites in the world. Both are full of water features that kids young and old can play in.

We are best know for our mountains, which I will get to later in the summer, but the rest of of the province has its own beauty that is preserved in national and provincial parks as well as protected areas donated by land trusts through Alberta Recreation.  Below is Peaceful Valley a day use area for seniors and disabled. It was the vision of Kay and Bob Wark who bought the land, built the lodge then donated it for the use of seniors and others who need accessible trails and facilities in order to enjoy nature

Alberta is full of campgrounds, mostly government run but there a few private gems like Twin Lakes. A beautiful deep lake used by divers. No motor boats or jet skis.

This is the site of the dock for the Wing Divers and canoeists

This was a favourite campsite for the kids when they were young. Just enough mystery in the forest to call little exploreres

While we may be most well known for cattle, bison are fast becoming a more common site

In July what are most beautiful are the canola fields.  There is nothing like the sea of yellow under the prairie skies. Especially just before a big storm.

Where to next?  Stay tuned for next weeks post
